Mandera County is located in the northeastern part of Kenya, bordering Somalia and Ethiopia. It covers an area of 25,797 square kilometers and has a population of approximately 867,457 people according to the 2019 census. The county is divided into 6 sub-counties, each with its own administrative and political structure. 1. Banisa Sub County

Banisa Sub County is located in the northern part of Mandera County, adjacent to the Ethiopian border. The sub-county has a population of approximately 93,848 people and covers an area of 4,527.4 square kilometers. The main economic activity in Banisa is pastoralism, with livestock rearing being the primary source of income for most residents.

2. Mandera Central Sub County

Mandera Central Sub County is located in the central part of Mandera County, with a population of approximately 71,183 people. The sub-county covers an area of 3,586.1 square kilometers and is mainly inhabited by the Somali community. The economy of Mandera Central is largely dependent on livestock production, and there is also some trade with neighboring Somalia.

3. Mandera East Sub County

Mandera East Sub County is located in the eastern part of Mandera County, adjacent to Somalia. The sub-county covers an area of 4,367.2 square kilometers and has a population of approximately 95,577 people. The majority of the population in Mandera East is pastoralist, with livestock rearing being the primary source of income.

4. Kutulo Sub County

Kutulo is a sub-county in Mandera County, and it is located in the eastern part of the county. The sub-county has an estimated population of over 50,000 people, and it is predominantly inhabited by the Somali community.

5. Mandera South Sub County

Mandera South Sub County is located in the southern part of Mandera County, adjacent to Wajir County. The sub-county covers an area of 3,413.5 square kilometers and has a population of approximately 91,489 people. The economy of Mandera South is largely based on livestock production and some agricultural activities, such as the cultivation of maize, beans, and other crops.

6. Mandera West Sub County

Mandera West Sub County is located in the western part of Mandera County, adjacent to Ethiopia. The sub-county covers an area of 3,983.3 square kilometers and has a population of approximately 90,256 people. The main economic activity in Mandera West is livestock rearing, with camels, goats, and sheep being the primary livestock kept.

7. Lafey Sub County

Lafey Sub County is located in the eastern part of Mandera County, adjacent to Somalia. The sub-county has a population of approximately 81,738 people and covers an area of 3,732.8 square kilometers. The economy of Lafey is mainly dependent on livestock rearing, and there is also some trade with neighboring Somalia
