Google is the most popular search engine in the world, and it isn’t close.

In fact, Google accounts for over 90% of global mobile searches and over 80% of desktop searches. This means that Google is a huge part of how we find information about businesses, products and services.

Google was founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin on September 4th 1998, but did you know that ‘Google’ was actually a typo? It was originally supposed to be ‘googol’ (a mathematical term used to describe the number represented by 1 followed by 100 zeroes). Larry Page thought the spelling ‘google’ looked more pleasing on the eye!

Now that we’ve covered some interesting facts about Google, let’s look at 10 important statistics you should know when planning your SEO strategy in 2022:

Search Is Larger Than the Entire Internet was in 2000

You should pay attention to these search statistics because they contain important insights into how you can strategically position your company to get the most out of search results. Search is growing, and as it does, you don’t want to get left behind.

Search is quickly becoming a bigger part of our lives and the world’s economy. You can already see the benefits that companies like Google have in the growth of their profits, which continue to rise year over year—$46 billion in profits in 2019 alone.

1.2 trillion searches are conducted each year worldwide.

  • 2 trillion searches are conducted each year worldwide. This means every day, on average, there are more than 3 billion searches. The first search engine crawled the web in 1994 and Google was born in 1998. At the time of writing this post, Google processes over 70,000 search queries per second on average – that’s over 6 billion searches per day and 2 trillion searches per year worldwide!

The stats tell us that a lot of people from all walks of life use them:

  • 1 in 5 relationships start online
  • 40% of adults have used an online dating service or app
  • 1 in 10 Americans have used a dating site or app and 23% have met a spouse or long-term partner through them (Dating Sites Reviews)

Only 5% of Google Searches Result in a Click on Page One

While it’s tempting to think of your small business as the center of the universe and imagine that everyone will be searching for your company name, organic search traffic is critical to any small business.

In fact, only 5% of Google searches result in a click on page one. That means 95% of people don’t go past the first page. This makes it even more important for your website to rank high in organic search results if you are looking for increased web traffic.

15% of Google Searches are New Each Day.

You may be surprised to learn that up to 15% of Google searches are new each day. This means that people are actively looking for information they haven’t been able to find in the past, or that simply wasn’t available until now.

Why is this number so important? Because it illustrates just how quickly our world is changing and evolving around us. It also shows how much people care about what other people think about them (and their business) online.

If your business isn’t paying attention to these latest trends, you’re missing out on a huge opportunity! That’s why we’re here – we want you to succeed by helping our clients take advantage of these ever-evolving consumer habits so they can reach their target market more effectively than ever before!

75% of People Don’t Go Past the First SERP (Search Engine Results Page)

75% of people don’t go past the first SERP. It’s understandable, really—who has time to scroll through page after page of web searches? The search engine industry is constantly evolving, with new algorithms being released and updated every day. Paid ads are increasingly taking over the top results for certain keywords, which can make it more difficult for organic sites to be seen. However, there are definitely steps you can take to improve your site’s search visibility and get your brand in front of more potential customers.

What are People Searching For?

Among the biggest search terms on Google in 2021 were social media platforms like Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook; online learning websites like EdX; online shopping sites like Amazon and eBay; streaming services like Netflix and Disney+; sports sites such as MLB.com or ESPN.com; news websites such as CNN or NPR News; search engines including Wikipedia pages and YouTube videos that provide information about different topics (i.e., “How do I download music from Spotify?”).

90% of Consumers Use Search Engines to Find Local Businesses.

Over 90% of consumers use search engines to find local businesses, and 96% of people with smartphones have used them to look up local information. If you’re not on the first page of search engine results, you might as well not be online.

60% of Searches Result in a Purchase Within 6 Months.

According to Google, 60% of searches result in a purchase within 6 months. That’s incredible considering the number of searches that get made every minute of every day.

Google says that 10.3 billion searches are made per month, and 3.5 billion searches are made per day. So on average, 60% of those searches leads to a purchase either immediately or within 6 months after the search was conducted. Of course, some end up buying right away, while others buy later on—but statistics show it all averages out in the end.

The Average Person Performs 3-4 Searches Before Buying Something Online.

Because of how important Google is, it’s important to know how users are interacting with it. There are millions of searches made on Google every day, and these searches have increased a lot over the last few years. Here are some stats to help you understand this trend:

  • The number of Google searches made each day has been steadily growing for years, and is expected to continue growing in the future.
  • In 2019 alone, there were over 5.6 billion daily searches on Google from mobile devices. This is projected to increase by about 1 billion daily mobile searches in 2022.
  • Not only is the number of mobile searches increasing, but more than half of all online traffic comes from mobile devices now (up from 16% in 2016).
  • With all those mobile devices making up such a large portion of internet traffic, it’s likely that you’re using a smartphone or tablet right now instead of a desktop computer!

Mobile Queries Are On The Rise and Poised To Eclipse Desktop as Primary Device For Search! (BYTESEO)

Mobile queries are becoming increasingly popular, and with good reason—mobile is the fastest-growing search channel in the world. Younger, more affluent users are driving mobile’s growth, and they’re finding what they’re looking for at unprecedented rates. With a higher conversion rate than desktop (but also a higher bounce rate), mobile queries represent a huge opportunity for companies that want to meet customers where they are.

Google search is a large part of how we find stuff online, and it’s pretty much the only way we find things in the physical world too.

What is SEO?

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the process of optimizing content to rank higher in search engines. The end goal is to increase traffic and generate more leads.

Why is SEO important?

Over 93% of online experiences begin with a search engine. Google receives over 63,000 queries per second each day. But if you’re not in the top 5 results, your chances of getting traffic are slim to none. If your competitors are ranking above you, they’ll get most of the traffic – and potential leads – for themselves. That’s why it’s essential to be visible on Google when people search for your product or service!
