Pilau Recipe: How to Prepare Pilau at Home

Ingredients

-2 cups Basmati Rice
-1 teaspoon Salt
-2 tablespoons Vegetable Oil
-1 Onion, diced
-3 cloves Garlic, minced
-1 teaspoon Curry Powder
-1 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
-1 teaspoon Ground Cumin
-1 teaspoon Ground Coriander
-1 cup Carrots, diced
-1 cup Peas
-2 cups Water
-1/2 cup Coconut Milk
-1/2 cup Raisins
-1/2 cup Cashews, chopped

Instructions

  1. Rinse the Basmati rice in cold water and drain.
  2. In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat then add the onion and garlic. Sauté for about 2 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Add in the curry powder, turmeric, cumin, and ground coriander. Stir to combine and cook for another minute.
  4. Add the carrots and peas to the pot and sauté for 2 minutes.
  5. Add the rinsed Basmati rice to the pot and mix everything together.
  6. Pour in the water, coconut milk, and raisins. Stir to combine.
  7. Bring the mixture to a boil, reduce heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  8. Once the rice is cooked, stir in the chopped cashews and fluff the rice with a fork.
  9. Serve the Pilau hot with your favorite accompaniments.
