Sauti Sol is a Kenyan afro-pop band whose music is heavily influenced by traditional African sounds. Formed in 2005, the band has become one of the most successful acts in East Africa. They are renowned for their powerful lyrics, upbeat rhythms and captivating live shows.

The group consists of vocalists Bien-Aime Baraza, Willis Austin Chimano, and Savara Mudigi, backed by guitarist Polycarp Otieno and drummer/producer Willis Austin Chimano. All of the members come from different backgrounds and cultures – Bien-Aime from Kenya’s coastal region, Chimano from Kenya’s Western region, Savara from Kenya’s Nairobi region, Polycarp from Kenya’s Central region, and Willis from Kenya’s East region.

The band’s real-life story began when Bien-Aime and Chimano met in college in Nairobi and started a band together. The two friends were inspired by the music of the East African region and wanted to create their own sound. They met Polycarp and Savara, two other talented musicians, who helped them form Sauti Sol.
In 2008, Sauti Sol released their debut album, Mwanzo, which was an instant success. The album featured hit singles such as “Chokoza” and “Nishike”. These songs showcased their unique sound and earned them recognition in their home country and abroad. Since then, the band has gone on to release three more studio albums, including Live and Die in Afrika, which was nominated for Best African Act at the 2017 BET Awards.
Sauti Sol has performed at numerous festivals and concerts around the world, including the 2015 Global Citizen Festival in New York, the 2016 Coke Studio Africa live tour, and the 2017 Global Citizen Festival in Stockholm. They have also collaborated with international artists such as Ed Sheeran, John Legend, and Akon.
