60 More Students Join Governor’s scholarship program

60 MORE STUDENTS JOIN GOVERNOR’S SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME:

Nyeri Governor H.E Mutahi Kahiga, EGH together with Nyeri Deputy Governor H.E David Kinaniri today issued bursary cheques to 60 more beneficiaries of the Governor Full Scholarship programme at Town Hall grounds, Nyeri town.

A total of 60 bright students from vulnerable families; two per ward, who scored above 350 marks have been selected. The students will have their fees fully paid by the County Government of Nyeri for the next four years. Their uniforms were also catered for and each given a pair of black shoes (made by the CGN).

This is the fifth cohort to benefit through this programme which was initiated in 2018 by Governor Kahiga, bringing the total to 300 beneficiaries.

“My government remains committed to supporting the education of our children, the improvement of academic performance in our county and ultimately, the lives of our youth,” noted the governor.

The County Government will soon be disbursing the Kshs. 50 Million Elimu Fund bursaries to assist some of the county’s students from vulnerable homes in secondary schools, colleges, polytechnics and special schools.

In the pursuance of improving Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE), the County Government has employed over 800 ECDE teachers, built and renovated many ECDE centres across the county with an aim of ensuring young novices have favourable learning environs.

Further, the County Government has built and renovated the Vocational Training Centers as well as equipped them to ensure they are centres of excellence.

Others present were Education CEC Margaret Macharia, Director James Kiretai, County Secretary Ben Gachihio, Chief of Staff Paul Wambugu, Ministry of Education officers, Principal Education officers, a group of MCAs led by area MCA Hon. Simon Mbogo among others.
